The City of Dream(er)s

A City of Dream(er)s

Hey there!

I just moved to New York last week which, naturally, was a pretty big decision for me. I’ve been to the city a few times before, so I knew what I was getting myself into. Just in case you haven’t (or if you don’t get why anyone would choose to live in the city dubbed the “concrete jungle”), I thought I’d share some of my reasons for moving here and why I think every writer should consider spending some time in the Big Apple. Here who go.

  1. Inspiration at Every Corner: Seriously, inspiration is everywhere you look. From the bustling streets of Manhattan to the peaceful nooks in Central Park, there’s always something—not always welcome—that can spark a new idea.

  2. A Literary Hub: NYC is packed with bookstores, literary events, and author readings. You could bump into your favorite author at a book signing or stumble upon a cozy little bookstore. It’s like a treasure hunt for book lovers!

  3. Diverse Stories: With its melting pot of cultures, New York is a goldmine for unique stories and perspectives. Living here allows you to experience so many different lives, which can really enrich your own writing.

  4. Creative Community: The city is buzzing with fellow writers, artists, and creatives. Joining writing groups or attending workshops is a fantastic way to connect with others who share your passion and can offer valuable feedback. It’s definitely not a place where artists are looked down upon (as, unfortunately, is the case in many other places).

  5. Endless Events: From literary festivals to art exhibitions, there’s always something happening. Attending these events can provide fresh insights and inspire new ideas.

  6. The Energy of the City: There’s this undeniable energy in NYC that can be super motivating. The hustle and bustle can give you that extra push to write and create.

  7. Historical Depth: The city’s rich history offers so much material to draw from. Whether you’re exploring the landmarks or digging into the past, you’ll find plenty of inspiration for your stories.

  8. Cafés and Writing Nooks: NYC is filled with cozy cafés and unique writing spots where you can curl up with your laptop or a notebook. Finding the perfect little corner to write is all part of the adventure.

  9. Cultural Experiences: Museums, theaters, and art galleries are just around the corner, giving you a chance to immerse yourself in different forms of art. These experiences can inspire new themes and ideas in your writing.

  10. The Magic of New Beginnings: Moving to a new city feels like a fresh start. Embracing the change and uncertainty can lead to personal growth, which often finds its way into your writing.

So, there you have it! I can’t wait to explore everything New York City has in store for me and share my adventures with you all. Here’s to new experiences, inspiration, and plenty of writing!

Talk to you soon—
